Beck’s life and death have had a lasting impact on all of us.

One of the lessons he has taught me, his mother, is the importance of Active Listening and Safety Plans in connection with suicide prevention.

These aren’t new skills; they have been part of societal living for a long long time. Sometimes, we just need to be told, clearly, without skirting around the issue, that they can stop you killing yourself when in that moment or period of time, you believe suicide is the best way to cope.

The message is simple:

When your thoughts turn to suicide, know that you are not alone.

Trust that you have not YET found a safe way to cope

There is currently a book, a video (soon to be two) and a printable A4 safety plan that you can share with others.

Together, we can use these tools to empower ourselves and others to survive and thrive through the worst life can throw at us. We might not be able to bring Beck back to life but we can let his life live on in our hearts and actions.
